During the first appointment, the acupuncturist will take time to understand the reasons that brought you to acupuncture, about your health condition and other relevant information such as your sleeping patterns, diet etc. Once diagnosis is complete, he may start the treatment using sterile, disposable needles or schedule the sessions by creating a personalized plan for you.
The acupuncture needles that are as thin as human hair are inserted at various depths on the skin along the energy channels of the body. There may be a feel of small prick with each needle. Keeping the needles for few minutes on the body may cause some sensations like heaviness, numbness or soreness. These sensations usually mean it is working.
Many people find it relaxing and calming after treatment. Some people feel energized, some feel tired before start feeling better. If feeling fatigue continues, taking rest will help.
This varies from person to person depending on the age, severity of the illness treated. An acute condition require 2-3 sessions and chronic conditions may require few weeks with 1-3 sessions per week.
